Your Instructor
Dr. Ron Mottern received his PhD in Educational Psychology & Research from the University of Tennessee, his MA in Human Services Management (Social/Psychological Services) from St. Edward's University, and his BA in English from Sam Houston State University. He is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in the State of Texas. He is Reality Therapy Certified by the William Glasser Institute. He is a Certified Hypnotist, Certified in Clinical Hypnosis, and Certified in Hypnosis for Pain Management.
Dr. Mottern has worked in Behavioral Health and Mental Health settings including Intensive Residential Treatment, Intensive In-Patient Treatment, Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Out-Patient, and Out-Patient Treatment with children and adults. He is currently in private practice.
He has taught Psychology courses at the Undergraduate level for Tusculum University, and at the Graduate level for Ashford University.
He continues to be active in psychological research. His papers have appeared in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He is the author of Living Well: A Guide to Cognitive Behavioral Skills Exercises (upon which this course is based), Little Harvey the Hypno-Roo Goes Walkabout (a helping book for children teaching cognitive behavioral skills, including hypnosis), and Choose Wisely: A Cognitive Behavioral Substance Abuse Intervention Program (which has been used across the country to treat substance abuse and addiction).
